Summary: One of the Best Kept Secrets in Lake George!
Phone: (518) 668-5259
Don’t let the no nonsense décor of Porrecca’s Restaurant fool you. This Italian restaurant features fresh, gourmet food where everything is made from scratch – even the mozzarella! If you like gourmet Italian dining, you will definitely want to add Porrecca’s to your list of restaurants to visit. I was told it is one of the best kept secrets in Lake George, and after one visit, I whole heartedly agree.
The culinary talent of Nick Porrecca, the chef and owner of this recently re-opened restaurant, is what makes Porrecca’s worth the visit. Porrecca, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, has returned to Lake George after eight years of working at some of the top restaurants in New York City and Los Angeles, including Daniels, Le Cirque, and the award-winning Tocqueville where stars like Madonna, Keith Richards, Dr. J and Elton John dine.
Porrecca uses all fresh ingredients and his own recipes to create delightful dishes where no detail has been overlooked. Nothing is pre-made, yet the prices are less expensive than other gourmet restaurants in the region (about 25% less expensive than gourmet restaurants in Saratoga). The atmosphere is informal and airy, with paper placemats and tall wood ceilings. The food, however, is anything but ordinary.
After just one bite of the Wild Mushroom Risotto I was hooked. This dish just explodes in your mouth and was a wonderful way to start the meal. Next was a spinach and arugula salad with fresh spinach, caramelized onions and fried goat cheese – which was equally delightful. This was perfectly paired with a Sicilian chardonnay that enhanced the flavors fully. The next course was a mouthwatering tomato soup, paired with black olive and ricotta pannini. For the main course, I had the addictively superb Baked Sea Bass, served with sautéed spinach, wild mushrooms and a spicy fresh red sauce that complemented the dish perfectly.
Porrecca’s Restaurant is within walking distance from the main shopping street in Lake George Village, located at the very tip of Canada Street. To reach it, drive or walk north until you reach the end of the street, where you can take a right and follow the lake towards Bolton Landing on 9L, or continue slightly to the left and head toward Warrensburg. Take the right and Porrecca’s is immediately on your left at the foot of Nordicks Motel. To learn more about Porrecca’s, visit their website at
